Alright, this is the first time that I can actually say I HATE apple. usually I love them, great service, great computers, great products in general, BUT on the 20th my powerbook G4 started freezing and making loud scratching noises from the hdd section, called and they did a few things (me knowing they werent going to work, but went through with them anyway) I tried out this temporary fix for a day until later it did the same thing, ha funny... Anyway called back the 25th to make an appointment to send it in and have the hdd replaced (or so i thought), get the box, wrap it up and mail it in, get it back on the 27th, paper doesnt say anything about a new hdd, but they restored OS. Used it about an hour or two and waht do you know, the same thing happens, couldnt call the last two days, but called today, actually talked to a "powerbook specialist" (whatever that is) and got her to realize it needs a new hdd. thankfully the box will be here tomorrow and im sending it back. Im glad, but at the same time this is another week I will be forced to use :sigh: windows... -end of rant, thanks for listening-

Well, at least they finally realized the HDD was the issue and are going to fix it. You could have been told to "pack sand" and got nothing I suppose.

Yeah, it's sad ... I had similiar experiences when my AppleStore tech advised my G5 should be replaced by Apple..good part was I got a new Intel Core2Duo but the bad part was it took them a month and a half of friggin' about and I was the driving force all the way 'cos no-one (apple or my apple store) were aware of what was causing such a long wait for what is usually a 36hr process.

I can tell you it was more than extremely frustrating, dealing with this over the phone...I realise I got the best deal out of a bad situation but that's my story anyway...

Does Apple even do their own repair work? Most companies "farm out" this sort of work, even though they do everything to make it appear they do it themselves. Few people know that UPS and FEdEx even do this work.

I don't know all the details, but apparently they take broken product to some airport hanger where it flew in to where a "shop" is set up to repair and return. The manufacturer never sees it and the consumer doesn't know the difference. I saw it on a documentary, but don't remmeber which tech manufacturers were mentioned.

Apple sends repairs to Apple Certified Repair Centers. This is much more efficient for both the consumer and the company.
Those repair centers may even be in your own town or city. They may also be in the next state or two over.
