Airport Extreme Card Install Kills PB 12"

I have a PowerBook 12" 1 Ghz. I removed the airport extreme card to use somewhere else. I reinstalled the card and the computer will not startup. The computer also gets really hot. I removed the card and tried to startup and it wouldn't. I waited till it was cool and then it started up but ran slow. The computer is fine right now and works like normal again, but what is wrong. I made sure I put it in correctly (double checked). Any thoughts?
