i am a new mac user and i just got a macbook today
so i have a lot of questions
my first question is why is t here only 38gb of free space?
what are the programs that are taking up most of that space?

do you have a 60 gig hard drive?
that may be why. there is a lot of space taken up.

a few apps to check out:

unison - great newsreader/binary downloader if you need that sort of thing.

onyx - excellent maintenance tool, great for cache maintenance and tweaking preferences

delocalizer - will free up a couple gigs of space by removing extra language support if you don't need it (i recovered about 2.8Gb).

i can figure out what the shortcut is for sending things to the trash
its the apple button plus some other button i cant find
also since my mac only has 512 of memory, what is the max i can upgrade it too?

you can put in a maximum of 2 GB ram in your macbook. it will use 2x 1GB sticks and that is the maximum. i highly recommend upgrading the ram in it so you can give yourself the ultimate OS X experience. i think this OS needs at least a gig of ram to run smoothly to anyones likings.

the lid is a little loose, it moves side to side a little

yes that is normal, because it isnt actually snapped in place, its just held shut by a magnet so it should do that. nothing to worry about there.

im using a linksys router

is there any special settings i should use in the configuration because i am using a mac?

I'm also using a Linksys router and it works fine on most settings. I've had trouble with using WPA2 encryption, but WPA works fine. I am also successfully using MAC filtering.

My Linksys works great, but I think most brands will. When you are seting your security key use WPA rather then WEP.

I'm not sure which router is the best, but my Linksys works well enough. I don't use Firefox so I can't troubleshoot that.

You maximize by clicking the green + in the top left hand corner of the window. This only makes the window as large as the document it contains.

mine was disabled
should i use wpa personal or enterprise?

I use wpa personal and it works great with my MacBook
