I have the new mac book pro
with the core duo 2GHz 15.4 inch.
and i am planning on getting a new monitor
does anyone no how i can change my setting so
that when i close my laptop it does not turn off
or go to sleep if anyone could. i am the only one
of my friends that uses a mac and i can't figure it out.
if anyone could help me that would be great.

There is no native setting in Mac OS X to do this. When the lid is closed, all network connections are cut and the machine goes to sleep.

when running a external montor and keyboard do i have to keep the mac book open?

you can run on an external monitor on a macbook (or mbp) while it's closed in an external mode, no?

That is different. Clamshell Mode is something that all new Mac notebooks will do. There is no setting to change. Simply plug in an external keyboard, mouse and monitor and then you can shut the lid. It will work with the lid closed in that fashion.

Merely shutting the notebook without all of those peripherals attached will not prevent sleep mode.

Yep. Just do this:

You can use an external display while the notebook display is closed by following these steps:


1. Put the notebook to sleep by closing the display.

2. Connect an external display, mouse and keyboard.

3. Press a key on the external keyboard.


Note: The AC adapter must be connected or the notebook will immediately go back to sleep.

ok so
close the note book
plug everything in
and strart press something on the keyboard
just wont to make sure i got that all right
and is this all the same if both my mouse
and keyboard are bluetooth ?

That would be fine. Just be sure to check the box "Allow Bluetooth devices to wake this computer" in your System Preferences under Bluetooth first.
