I just got an HD MiniDV camcorder. I'm very excited about it but in all the excitement i didn't think of something. If i record in HD and then copy it using iMovie and then send it to iDVD will it keep the HD quality when playing on a DVD player and an HDTV? Or will i need to get an HD DVD player and burner?

unfortunately there is no way for you to keep the quality the same with out a special player and burner, and I also believe that idvd can not handle hd footage as of yet. you will need dvd studio pro.

Gotcha. So until iDVD supports HD and I get and HD DVD burner i'm kinda SOL eh? Well, at least the camera came with cables to connect it to an HDTV. I just can't edit. Now if i do record in HD and then copy to iMovie it will keep the quality? but if i move it to iDVD it will make it standard? Just making sure i got it right.

thanks for the info :)

I believe imovie supports a full range of HD, so that should be how it goes...

So you could edit it, then put it back on the tape, and watch it on the tv... then save the tape for later when HD-DVD or BluRay is a standard.

You will also need an HD dvd player as PBG4 says. Standard DVD players only support up to 480p, not 720p or 1080i as your camera most likely supports
