I bet that was Microsoft Marketing's "Plan B" when they realized they wouldn't be able to get their name in the news using Sony's riot-causing shortage tactic.

I would bet even money some wal-mart associate did it. OR some parent had returned it because their kid was using it for porn. And the wal-mart re-closed the box, and re-soled it. That is why they ask if there was actually anything wrong with the device when you return it, so they can determine if they can re-shelve it. Of course they are also supposed to make sure everything is in the package too.

Ha ha! I think it's too easy to blame Microsoft - it has to be some joker at the store messing round iwth it.

heheh, interesting read.

Not too long ago, I remember reading reports that some of the iPod nanos were found to have viruses on them (only affecting PC, of course)
Apple didn't know how the viruses got on the devices (Apple: "a virus you say?! .....what the heck is a virus?")
I thought it funny though - a subtle way of saying 'switch to mac'.

This smells like a guerilla tactic agianst the right wing. WalMart is known for its high "family values" and anti everything "UnAmerican". Since it was gay porn I'll bet that someone bought the zune, loaded the porn and returned it. Walmart doesn't always check items returned before throwing them back on the shelve.

I believe whatever happened, it was Wal Marts fault in one way or another. I feel they sold the Zune to someone and they tried it, did not like it and returned it for their $$$ back. That is done at Wal Mart all the time. Problem is, Wal Mart probably put the Zune back on the shelf and did not even check to see that the AC Adapter was missing nor that it had Porn on it. I have seen this kind of junk at Wal Mart many times. Fry's Electronics a LOT of times takes stuff back and does not even really inspect it, and puts it on the shelf all sealed back up. Got a motherboard that way that was toast, got an Linksys router that had someone's name as the SSID when ALL Linksys routers have an SSID of Linksys.

I don't believe for a minute it was Microsoft and I am FAR from a Microsoft Sympathizer!

so, no one else thinks that this may just be a scam?

buy a zune from walmart (two big anonymous targets), load some porn, complain that it was there when you got it, settle for more money than you can make in a number of years at an honest job - that is, if no one checks the file to see when it was added to the player.

Blaming MS for this is like blaming Apple for my oldest daughters crappy taste in Music.

Now Wal-Mart on the other hand....

there is no way to blame ms for this unless it came from the factory that way (which it is obvious it didn't)... however... walmart should be reprimanded for just putting returned items right back on the shelf with out check it... what if it was not porn but evidence of a murder, some sort of bomb, etc?

In case you couldn't tell, I was joking about blaming Microsoft, it is pretty obvious that it is not their fault.

Question: What about the guy that loaded it up with porn before returning it? Cameras are everywhere in stores like Walmart, I assume they would be able to find the guy, but would he have broken any law?

Another question: Would they be making a big deal about it being 'homosexual' porn if it was women instead of men?

One more: PowerBookG4, when are you going to post pictures of your Mustang?

I'm sure someone bought it, returned it and Wal Mart never checked it. Now whether or not the people forgot to erase the porn, who knows.

I agree, I am sure the Zune didn't come from the factory pre-loaded with porn. Imagine how they might sell if they did though.

It is a little funny how wal-mart was so quick to point the finger at microsoft though.

I wouldn't be surprised it's WalMart's error though. They do take back merchandise and put it back on the shelves. When we were looking for a deep frier about a year ago, we went to WalMart's to check out what they had. We saw a deep frier and were going to buy it.

As I was walking with the box in my hands, a smell of oil came from the box! We opened it and the smell was very strong. The deep frier itself appeared to be clean but here and there you could see the unit had already been used. When I buy something, I plan on buying new unless I fully know I am buying used. Needless to say we put it back on the shelves and walked out of there!

To this day, we have never been back to WalMart's and don't ever plan on doing so ever again.

.

Agreed. There is potential a whole industry waiting to be tapped (no pun intended) there....
