Im a beginner in the Macintosh world and Im planning on adding a 250GB internal drive to my Power Mac G5 / 2GHz Dual machine (Mac OS Tiger).
My question its simple, what kind of serial ATA (SATA) drive does the Power G5 support? I mean what brand are compatible to the Power G5? Somebody told me that only Macintosh HD should be used. Its that true?
I'd appreciate every comment about it.

Any SATA hard drive will work. I would recommend Seagate because they are by far the most reliable and most of the time the fastest and quietest, and the only manufacturer with an incredible 5 year warranty.

Somebody has no clue what they are talking about. As already stated any SATA compatible Hard drive will work fine.

I have seen Seagate drives with Apple logos on them, but they were no different than a normal PC drive. The only difference is that they are probably formatted for the Mac file system rather than NTFS/FAT32, but that can be fixed in OSX setup easily...

Thank you every one for your posts, it seem that i bought the 300 MB/s instead of the 150 MB/s that works with the Power G5.
Very good people here!

IIRC, most 300MB/s drives are backwards compatible to 150MB/s so it should not be an issue.

A 500GB drive will probably work. A 750GB drive will probably work as well. Apple just said the maximum was 250GB because that was probably the largest drive there was at the time. Man how things change with a little time... I can't wait to see the first standard 1TB 3.5" hard drive...

I have a 500Gb Western Digital SATA II Hard Drive as the second internal drive in my G5 Quad. Works fine.

Sweet thanks for the input. In that case, I may look for a 750 MB HD.
