1000's of Pics on My Desktop

My significant other inadvertantly exported the entire contents of iPhoto onto the desktop of a non-admin user login (our primary login). So now there are over 4000 photos on the desktop all in one pile on top of the hard drive icon (not sure why it put them on top of the hard drive icon). When I try to select them it basically locks the computer (not really, but the little spinning wheel never stops) and selects the hard drive too.

I can log in under a different user including the main admin user.

How can I get rid of those photos without the computer locking up?

When in the finder click Apple + N to open a new finder window, click on desktop and try to select them in the finder. If that doesnt work you might have to select them individually and delete them one by one until you can select them all and delete them.

Thanks. I'll try those ideas and see how it goes. Then I'll post my results here for others.
