Benchmarks of MBP c2d 2.16GHz?

I currently have my eyes on the "small" 15.4" MBP. But I read in some review, that the 128MB X1600 were underclocked in it's Core Duo predecessor MBP, which resulted in at little unsatisfying performance compared to normal a X1600 card.

I know from several reviews that a normal 256MB X1600 card can score around 2000 points in 3Dmark06 with a Core 2 Duo processor. And I will be satisfied I the new 2.16 Core 2 Duo MBP can score around 1800 points with the 128MB X1600.
My problem is that I can't find any 3Dmark scores of that specific machine.

Can anyone help me out with finding some 3Dmark scores for the new 2.16 Core 2 Duo MBP?

Thanks in advance :)

Thanks for your answer #2, but it doesn't really answer my questions specific enough.

The core speed of the X1600 in the old Core Duo MBP is approx. 310 MHz, but it should be around 425 MHz on a normal X1600.

Will anyone who has got the 2.16GHz Core 2 Duo MBP run a 3Dmark05/06 test on their machine for me, or check the X1600's core speed otherwise?

It is really the only thing that will determine wether I should buy the 2.33GHz or save a little money and buy the slightly slower 2.16GHz MBP.

a benchmark determining whether you should spend an additional 5-600$?

come on! :)

obviously the 256 version is better, and depending on your needs, that will decide wht you get.

i wouldnt expect drastic numbers of difference from anyone that does the benchs for ya. they are, after all both x1600's

If the X1600 is bumped up in the new Core 2 Duo 2.16GHz MBP as you say, I want to save the 5-600$

Unfortunately doesn't any of the Apple shops I've contacted have this information available, so that's why I need some help from you guys.

A 200MHz difference in clock speeds on a GPU can make a massive difference. Does it warrant another $500? If you ask me, no. But I would be willing to pay $500 more for the Core 2 Duo over the Core Duo. The reason being is that Core Duo can never do anything 64-bit, whereas the Core 2 Duo can. There will be a day when OSX goes natively 64-bit, in which case the Core Duo MBP will not be able to run it, and the Core 2 Duo MBP will. That said, if money is tight I would recommend getting the refurb MacBook Pro 15" Core Duo 2GHz on Apple's Store website for $1349. All things aside, that is a smoking hot deal!

That said, I have no idea what the specific clock speeds are on the GPU on the MBP Core Duo vs. Core 2 Duo, but I would pay more attention to the CPU it has under the hood as this will be much more important as far as performance and compatibility go.

I would never choose a Core Duo, but I would like to save some cash, if the X1600 isn't downclocked on the 2.16 GHz Core 2 Duo MBP as it were on its predecessor.

I would appreciate if anyone who runs Windows on their 2.16 GHz Core 2 Duo MBP, to run a 3Dmark05/06 test on their machine, or find out for me, what the core/ram speed on the X1600 is.

I believe there is an ATi tool that shows you the clock speed as well if anyone has one of these MBP to try it out...

They have done it. Scroll down a little and you will see. It seems the 2.16 GHz C2D has clocks of 423/475, much higher than the CoreDuo. Its 3DMark05 score was 3870 compared to 2685 of the CoreDuo 1.83GHz. They then overclocked it to 500/575 and got a score of 4449. I do not remember the score of the 2.33 Core2Duo, but these are significantly better than the CoreDuos.

**EDIT** Found a score for the 2.33 C2D. 3976. So it is still about the same 100 point difference as the first MacBook Pros.

Thanks a lot m8!!!!

I've used a lot of time finding this information ;)

That definately means I will save my 5-600$ and only getting at minor performance decrease on the X1600 with 128MB vram :D
