How mental, they are the same thing. I thought it would be satirical, but he seems serious...

The Difference: (As experienced by me)

Notebook - What computer manufactures call it

Laptops and notebooks are so compact and they're perfect for a first time computer owner. They will give you what you need when you need it and nothing could bring more convenience. Hope this helps at least a little bit in your computer buying decisions. Happy shopping!

Not that it matters, but I don't think Erin is a "guy." :)

Still clueless, though.

Not that I am trying to be an ***, but was the not a thread a while back about macbook heat issues where people commented that macbooks are "not" laptops, but they are notebooks.

you don't really need to check into the differences between a laptop and notebook, because they are very similar

6 of one, half-dozen of the other.

Still never explained a difference i nthe two these days. I alomst want to write to him/her and ask to elaborate.

I always thought the components wer most important, but the way people go on about matte vs. glossy, maybe screen is the most important.

Well this is true, the components (CPU, Memory speed / type, hard drive speed / size, video card, etc.) are the most important part. The matte vs glossy is only getting so much hype because it's a new choice and it's really the only choice Apple offers regarding what components are in the machine.
