well ill be buying at the very least a base model MBP, but had some questions.

the price difference is pretty much about 525$ between the baseline model, and the better 15".

if u figure in the cost of Ram (100$ for another 1gb stick) that brings it to about 400$.

i dont generally game, and my 1.83 MB has been fine for my processor needs. the screen/lack of gfx on the mb has got me desiring more however.

so is the performance of the 256 videocard that much better than the 128? is the 2.33ghz chip really worth the extra money over the 2.16?

ive just got to make a decision, and i see many people on here have the 2.33 MBP.

will leapard just plain out run better on the better MBP? i will be getting 10.5 when it comes out.

If your MacBook's 1.83 is working just fine for your needs, the 2.16 Core 2 Duo should certainly be more than sufficient. There's really nothing you can't do with 2.16 that you can't with 2.33. I would, however, suggest getting the better graphics card, it will invariably come in handy at some point.

What do you do with your computer? If your current notebook suits you fine, then there really isn't any pressing need to upgrade it in my opinion.
Is there something that you would like to do that your MacBook can't do?

I think that unless you're doing something graphic-intensive or major number crunching, about the hardest thing you could throw at it would be gaming, and the base model is plent yto handle that.

reason is, my girlfriend is buying the macbook.

overall i want a little bigger screen for my c++ stuff. so that really eliminates the mb off the bat.

its more of a replacement, not an upgrade u see.

If your current computer does everything you want, getting the "lower end" of the two upgrades is still an upgrade. So, you'll be happy the day you get your new computer no matter what.

If you think there is a chance you'll want the video RAM and you already know you're going to shell out for the extra system RAM, then I would say suck it up and buy the more expensive machine. You can't upgrade the video card or the video RAM, so once you've made the commitment you're stuck with it until you're ready to buy another computer.

If you plan on running 3D intense applications, yes it would. Otherwise, there wouldn't make any noticeable change.
