I got my MBP 2 months ago, I noticed with many CD's that when I insert the disc and it starts to spin up it sounds like its scrapping against something. (not a whining sound a scratching sound) When the disc spins up very fast usually this noise goes away or lessens. Recently I’ve been having a hard time burning audio CD’s in iTunes and the drive reading some discs.

Just to update on this, I tried a whole bunch of other brands of CDRs and they seem to be working fine. I imagine the tolerance between the discs and the inside of the drive are extremely tight and if the discs are not close to perfect it will sometimes have issues with them.
