i downloaded gimp shop for my macbook, thinking that it would be similar to a microsoft paint application, and after i realized that it was too complex for me to use i deleated it. upon installation however, i had to install something called x11 from the dvd that came with my macbook in order to run the application. now, after deleating the application i still get software updates for x11 and i am unsure what i should do... should i remove x11 from my computer and if so how or shoud i just update the software??

Keeping X11 wont harm your Mac. It is the primary user interface for Unix. There are lots of open source Apps. developed for Macs which requires X11. IMO you will have more advantages of keeping it than removing.
