help with airport express please???

hi all....

so, i'm moving out of my parents place to the apartment next door (soooooo far away) and decided to get airport express so i wouldnt need to pay for an extra internet connection...

so i'm on a dsl (PSTN) usb modem now, and went out and bought an ethernet modem to hook it up to my airport express and plugged it in but no joy....
what settings do i need???????

if there's one side of technology i'm completely hopeless with it's networks, so please please help me or i just wasted $200

sorry to post again, but what does this warning mean?

"your airport base station must be configured in bridge mode to connect using PPPoE" ????

how do i configure bridge mode, and what does it mean??????
