Ipod video conversion question.

I have videos on my computer that I am trying to convert to mp4 so I can put them on my ipod.. My question is this: How long should it take to convert a 704mb .avi file to mp4? It took about 60-90 minutes. That seems a bit long? is it just me or is that too long? I used Isquint.. Is it the program that takes so long? my computer? any help would be great!

1.67ghz powerbook with a 120gb hd 2GB of RAM. last model before the macbook/and macbook pro.

That's quick compared to my Ti Book.. Currently doing videos of the same size in about 10 hours using VisualHub.
