The light you see - is it a white circle that flashes slowly? That's the sleep light. It won't go off unless you shut down the computer completely.

Its not the sleep light, its on the bottom. Not lower right, the bottom right.

It would be helpful if you could post a picture of this. I too would have thought it would be the sleep indicator light. But now that you say the light is underneath the unit, I'm goin' Wha? *Scratches head*

What peripherals do you have plugged in? If you're shutting down the iMac, then there is no power going to it hence, no lights should be on.

I'd follow MHC's advice and post a pic.

That is right where the ambient light sensor should be. Maybe apple put an LED there instead of the sensor by mistake.

well, it could be just a power light meaning that the device has power, but is turned off.

Kind of like the PS2 and how the red light is always on, which means standby or off, but the light just stays on.

A lot of devices maintain a small level of power, and have a light on, but are in fact turned off.

My eMachines desktop has a light in the front, which is blue, and it only turns on when the computer shuts off to tell me that there is still power going to the machine.

Maybe its jsut something that is there, and cant be changed.

is this light on when the computer is on ? Or just when the computer is shut off ?
