with the new mac book pro duos (laptop) can i install a 7200 rpm hard drive? I called apple and they said is that it is not an upgrade option from them but, not if it can be done or not. Thanks in advance!

Not sure whether it is possible. Even if its possible, you might loose the Apple warranty.

Yes, it's possibly. IIRC, it needs to be a 2.5" SATA drive.
