I recently got a Western Digital 200gb hdd for an external hard drive and it is not showing up on my desktop. Any way to fix this problem?

Thanks.

I would start with Disk Utility. Does Mac OS X see the drive at all?

After that, I would check the cables you are using to connect it the Mac. Try getting a new/different one. Perhaps your cable is bad.

Next, try the drive on ANY other computer. Does it show up on ANY computer? Perhaps the drive is bad.

Good luck!

Well i got it to work now, but it only shows up when I use the USB cable and not the firewire cable for some odd reason.

Does that Firewire port work with other equipment? Is it possible that the Firewire port is bad? It also might be the Firewire cable you are using. Finally of course, the Firewire interface on the drive itself might be bad. It is VERY hard to isolate this sort of problem without a lot of dickering about.

Glad you got it working!
