Hi. I just got my new iMac with 2 GB of memory, hoping that the added memory would speed up my internet surfing. I don't know a lot about computers. To my dismay, I have learned that it's the type of internet connection, dial up or broadband, that has most to do with loading pages and watching videos. Does anyone except me use their iMac with a dial up internet connection? How is it possible to watch videos from youtube, for example, with a dial up connection. I would like to get the most from my new iMac.

Unfortunately a dialup connection will give you a max connection speed of 56kbps. For the record, that's a really slow connection. It should be possible to watch videos on Youtube, but it'll be really slow. You may have to download the newest Flash player to able to watch them though. If you're going to spend a lot of time surfing, I'd recommend getting a broadband connection. It'll make life so much easier, and then you can download all sorts of programs from the internet without having to wait an exorbitant amount of time for the download to finish.

I have no idea where you are, and what's available to you, but for what it's worth I've got a 5Mbps connection (about 90 times dialup), that costs around 66 USD per month.

The 2 GB of memory won't do anything to your connection speed, but you'll be able to do some heavy multitasking with that amount of memory.

As hclincha said adding memory wouldn't boost the internet speed so much. If you want to have a better internet experience switch to broadband. I have 16MBPS connection at home and I pay roughly $50/M.

You have three ports in the back, right? Plug the mouse through the keyboard. That should be fine. At least it's working for me.

If you are a patient person the dialup will work great.. If you don't want to wait hours for something to down load you will need to upgrade..

Dialup was useable a couple of years ago. Now more websites are designed around broadband, so 56k is nigh on useless.

I've just been shaped down to 33kbps due to exceeding my 5gb per mth download limit but luckily only have to wait until the beginning of next month to go back to my normal 512k/128k. So things are sloooooooooow
