i want to know what the mac equivalents/better versions of a few programs are.

windows live messenger
vlc media player
bit lord
aim
best web browser
microsoft office (been recomended neo office)
nero burning rom (or other programs that can burn iso format)
dvd shrink 3.2 (or other programs that can rip dvd into iso)

vlc media player - vlc on the mac
bit lord - not sure
aim - not sure
best web browser - safari (which somes with the mac) or firefox

Here's some suggestions for the missed ones...

bit lord - it's a bittorrent client so Azureus or Transmission or Tomato Torrent
aim - Adium supports AIM, I think it's in iChat as well although not sure, I've never used this one.
DVD Shrink - Mac The Ripper

And yes, iMacs have built in microphones (and cameras)
