I have a large collection of MP3s from my old pc system, that I want to bring to my new MBP. (they are all legal, for those that want to know)...

The ID3 tags are not consistent, missing some info, etc...

Anyone have a good program that will help me sort my libraries tags easily and smoothly, and most importantly .. efficiently..?

You can change that info in iTunes rather easily.

yes, it is rather easy in Itunes, however, is it likely that I will find a program that does MASS editing. Where I can look a whole album at once, and cnange things there..

I have found some that claim to do this, but they simply dont work.
check out this one for a good example:

You can do that in iTunes. Just select all of the tracks in an album and do a mass "get info" command. There you can set the album name, date, artist, etc. for all of the slected tracks.
