ok. tried everything that was suggested but nothing. I tried the control deal and no "remove" showed up. Can't drag it to the trash - won't allow it.
Pretty much any standard ISP will work with a Mac. I use SBC Yahoo DSL here now called AT&T but same people. They give you a free Dial up accoun to use while away from your DSL. It works great with any computer. You just use the dialer built into OSX and put in the Phone number, Username and Password. Any ISP that uses a PPP dialer needs NO SOFTWARE at all to dial in to the net. Just use the PPP tab in Network and select the Modem then put in the settings. I hate the so called ISP's that make you install all that junk just to connect. Not needed with a real ISP.
GOOD LUCK tomorrow!!! I am still searching for a way around that stupid Total Access icon.
Yeah, that is a shame. It was a very different place when I worked there. That was about 4 years ago before they canned all of us and sent support overseas. Thanks a bunch for not giving up. I've been searching and searching the net and came across ALOT of BAD reviews on earthlink. Not only the advice to NOT download TA but earthlinks bad customer service. Not what I wanted to hear or read.

Still, even then the Total Access software was a waste and caused more problems than it was worth.
Look on the bright side though... you think it is a pain to get rid of it on a Mac? It is even worse in Windows. If I recall correctly, the TA software left something like 50+ unique registry tags in Windows that were near impossible to delete. The only way to truly get rid of it was to reinstall a clean install of Windows.
To get rid of it in Mac OS X, you may need to invoke root if the file says it is owned by such. I am not the most fluent with Terminal commands, but I am fairly certain this should work:
Open up your Terminal application.
With Terminal open, type "sudo rm -rf " without the quotes then drag the file that you want to delete. Hit enter. It'll ask for your root password. This should delete the file for you.
So when you open the terminal and type what DevilBoy said, you get a password prompt but it will not let you type in the password?
If you choose Archive and Install when the installer first boots up, all your files and even settings will remain the same. Just a fresh copy of OSX will be installed. Only thing I am wondering is if that would get rid of that stupid Earthlink icon and folder. Doing an Archive and Install has always worked for me with OS problems though but this is an Earthlink install problem.
I have never had that password problem you are having using Terminal. I am pretty sure that would zap that icon. Maybe someone else can figure out the terminal password part for you as I am going out of town for the day. Good luck!
