Anybody know if the 7200rpm drive is available on the 15 in MBP C2D? I see it as an option on the 17in via the Apple site but not on the 15in. When is Seagate gonna drop those 120 and 160GB 7200 rpms?! Okay that last line was a rant, please disregard.

I think you answered your own question in the very next sentence....

Yeah but I fail to see the reasoning behind it. If they can offer it on the 17in for 100 bucks off then y not on the 15 for a even trade for the 120GB 5400? Its not like Apple to remove performance upgrades after offering them is it?

Perhaps Apple isn't offering the 7200rpm drive on the smaller laptop due to heat concerns. Or maybe they really want you to upgrade to the 17" monster. Or maybe they can't enough of those drives to fill orders. Or maybe... :black:

I still think its stupid. Its a hundred dollar discount if you get it in the 17. It really should be available on the top to models. I dont think we ever had this issue with the PowerBooks. Maybe I'm being selective here in my memory but couldnt you always configure a 15 the same as a 17? they gave us the FW 800, dual layer burning, more ram, and then dropped the fast drive... Perplexing to say the least

I agree with you. I think all the 'Pro' laptops should be treated equal and the design should allow for it.

The only limiting factor is what can fit in the package. So I think the 17" should have more ports, an option for a second hard drive, a second battery, and when the Intel memory controller allows for it, more memory slots. I'm not saying all of these could be added, but surely some of it.

I've heard that a big factor in that desicion was that the 7200 drive KILLS battery life.

Yeah but consider that these are desktop replacement machines, portability is the sell not battery life... at least in my mind. They don't even call them laptops anymore, heck they don't even recommend you use them on your lap. They do support the option to hot swap batteries. An upsell as they say in the trade. At the least it should be an option on the high end 15.
