Fan Controller

Does anyone know of a fan controller to control the fans in a Mac Pro? I finally found one for my MacBook and I'm looking for one on my Mac Pro now. I'd also like to know if there is a way to monitor the temp inside the case without installing 3rd party sensors.

Certainly for the PowerMac G5, there are sensors already there. I suspect the same is true for the Mac Pro. Just go get yourself the iStatPro widget (free) and it will display the results. Why are you worried about this? Noise problems? I have heard over and over that the Mac Pro is even quieter than the PowerMac G5.

To the group, am I out in left field? Is iStatPro not supported yet in Universal?

No noise isn't a problem at all. I just dropped 3 grand on it and I want to make sure that everything is running to par, the cooler everything runs the longer it lasts and this thing better last the next 10 years.

I have istat pro and its saying there aren't any sensors, which doesn't seem right to me but I may just be doing something wrong.

iStat Pro may use some code that's not optimized for your Intel processor. Usually widgets are just Javascript/HTML/Css, but iStat uses some code to read from the system.

Search for a UB version of iStat.

Ok looks like I have 3.1 which is universal, so I'm not sure if the Mac Pro's just don't have temp sensors or it's just not reading them correctly.

Hardware monitor alows you to do all that but, to control your fans you need to buy a licence.

What do you mean by buy a license.

I jsut downloaded it and said it cant dtect any sensors and cant tell me the temp or anything

Have you tried SMC fan control? It says it works for MacBook & MacBook Pro. Works on my MacBook no problem.

Its the demo version so you cant ajust the fans and have a few other fetures until you purchase it. It works fine on my mac pro.

What one did you try?

Oh misread your first post. All the mac names are so similar now MacBook Pro,
MacBook, Mac Pro. Read it as a MacBook Pro. Anyways cant help ya there but im sure someone here will have an answer.

I just got my Mac Pro and I'm using lobomoto's Fan Control and it works just fine.

My computer is running at 1985 rpms for the fan and both the processors are at 131 degrees Fahrenheit

can you change the fan speeds with that program?
