How to manage Ethernet connection on imac

New to imac, have it about a month.
want to be able to manage the ethernet connection for web access and use it instead of the air-port wireless connection.

How do i set it it up and manage it please?

That or just turn Airport off by clicking on the icon in the upper right corner, why have it on if your not going to use it?
