I just bought a used power mac g4 it works great but only has a ten gig HD. I have an external 260 gig that is amazing but my mac will not let me install software on this harddrive. Is there a way arround that? Or is there some setting I have to change?

If you're running 10.4.x, go into System Preferences and see if it will allow you to make the 260GB drive your "Startup Disk".

That is what I would do.
you would have to set up osx on it because you can't start up something if there is no os on it..
