Is there a problem with Spyware/Adware?

I know there's not a problem with viruses, worms, etc. in OS X but do I need to worry about Spyware, Adware, etc? Should I look for programs to get rid of those and if so any suggestions?

The second-last paragraph in this post tells of my experiment into trying to attract spyware.

The only anti-spyware app I know of is Macscan. I used the demo in the experiment.
