I bought my macbook with 2 DIMMs of 256mb and recently bought a 1GB DIMM. Is it faster to just use the 1GB or to use the 1GB and one of the old 256mb sticks to make it 1.25GB?
I won't make any difference until the Mac needed access to more than one gig. Without the 256 chip it would then have to page out more data to the drive. So after a long hard day of burning DVD's and iChat and email and posting to mac-forums the Mac will appreciate the extra 256 chip.
