Backing Up New Files from iTunes 7??

I was wondering if anyone had a smooth way of transferring new MP3s in iTunes to my external harddrive. I want to keep it in order the way it would if it were just going into my internal. I probably sound stupid, but I am just getting privvy to backing up my system. Thanks

One suggestion is to uncheck the option to "Copy Files to iTunes Folder when adding to Library"

This option can be found in iTunes>Prefs>Advanced>General

This way, you would first put the mp3's onto your external, then point iTunes at them.
