Just right-click and select "Get Info" then select the icon at the top of the dialog and press the delete key. This will get rid of any icon that has been over-laid and you should be back to the default icon.

This is a great tip olias, but unfortunately won't restore the Startup Disc icon in this instance.

The icons in System Prefs are aliases to preferences and cannot be right-clicked or command clicked on.

I had something similar on another icon. I used Mac Pilot and hit the Erase Icon cache under Tools.

Thanks Macwork!

What Macwork suggested worked for me. I had the same icon problem.
