I'm trying to download some legal files from a friend in another country (France) who uploaded them using rapidshare.

Unfortunetly I have to wait 72 hours between each and every download. Is there any programs on mac osx that can renew my IP address so i do not have to wait 72 hours between downloads?

Closer than you think.
Your Mac's Specs
Performa 6116 2GBSCSI 8MB OS 7.5.3
That's dependent on you ISP.

Try Privoxy to randomize your IP. This will give you a different IP but will slow down your downloads considerably.

Taken from the ifconfig manual...

DESCRIPTION
Ifconfig is used to assign an address to a network interface and/or con-
figure network interface parameters. Ifconfig must be used at boot time
to define the network address of each interface present on a machine; it
may also be used at a later time to redefine an interface's address or
other operating parameters.

See for your self by typing the following in a command shell...

man ifconfig

Nice info, but completely unrelated to the problem at hand. If you are using a cable modem or dsl modem, the IP of the MODEM is what is checked when verifying when you downloaded. Changing your ip on the mac will do nothing except for possibly make your machine unusable. Your IP to the rest of the world is whatever address your ISP assigns the modem.

The reason a proxy works is that it routes all of your traffic through it, masking your actual IP address. The reason that it causes major slowdown is that ALL of your network traffic has to pass through the proxy before reaching your destination.

You can spoof your IP but I don't know enough about that subject to explain it.

you can simply reboot your modem. Normally, when rebooted, the ISP will assign the modem another address. Be sure to wait AT LEAST three minutes before plugging the modem back in. This should resolve your issue. :)
