Install problem

Every time I try to install new software
I get the following

Image mounting failed

Anyone know what problem can be ?

It sounds like the disk image (.dmg) file you downloaded is corrupted.
Try re-downloading.

And if you haven't already, maybe reboot. You may have a pending image that for whatever reason is hanging.. (You can get into disk utility and make sure all previous images are unmounted prior to mounting the new image, but that's too technical, a reboot should clean it up if aptmunich's advice didn't help)

If rebooting doesn't fix it and redownloading (try another image file too just in case it's exclusively the file you're trying to open).. then post again .

Yes i repaired permissions

I think it all started after I installed software for a new printer ( an Epson R340 )

When i was trying to load the bundled software one of the add ons " hung up " for ages so I tried to cancel install without success

I was forced to switch the Mac off

Could it be that that programme is "hanging " ?

I managed to get into disc utility and ran " verify disc "

The test stopped and the following was displayed

Can I fix this or do I need a new drive ?

Do you have your install CD/DVD that came with your machine? If so hold down "C" and boot from the install CD. Open the Disk Utility there and run it. See if it will fix the problem. Make sure you run Repair and not just verify.

you probably damaged the volume header when the install went wrong. OSX does not take kindly to being forcefully turned off unlike OS9 where it wasn't really a problem. Their are two options to solve the problem, either buy and run the program diskwarrior, this may solve the problem or back everything up and do a clean install. If you have another computer you could backup everything through the firewire cable. I should think your harddrive itself is fine.

Do this first. Your volume needs to be repaired. If this does not work then try alternative solutions.

Yes you can backup to the second drive and then install on the master. As the others have said see if Disk utility will help by running it off the CD. You never know it may solve the problem.
