Black Boxes & Duplicate Menu Items

Hi all,

I'm a relatively new convert to Macintosh and up until now all was running smoothly, but this morning I turned on my PowerMac and for some reason I now have black boxes around selected icons and certain menu items.

e.g if I click on one of the hard drive icons on my desktop I get a dirty great box around it, it doesn't even fit properly, I also get this box some of the header bar items and web pages that have text boxes etc I also have duplicate menu items in the Apple menu.

I have attached some screen shots to show what I mean, any help is greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

Voiceover is also the reason there are double menu items. Turning it off should fix that problem as well.

Sorted many thanks, I did look for similar things but must have been blinded by the black boxes as I never saw the other posts.

Thanks for your help.

Black frame around selected items

Hi all

Heres my first thread and a colleague as a problem. Everytime she clicks on something (button, icon, folder) etc, a black frame/outline appears. Any way of removing this? Also in the Apple drop down menu some of the options have doubled ie. there are two shutdowns to select from.

She uses 10.4.10.

Much appreciated.

Welcome to Mac-Forums, jockademus.

I think your friend accidentally activated Universal Access.

Look below your thread, you will see a similar threads section: since this has already been discussed, you will find the solution in those other threads.

Or do a search in the forum for black box or something like that.

I turned something on and now want to turn it off...

Ok apparently I did something to activate this little black box to show up and outline most everything I select or navigate. Here are some images of it:

If you hit Command-Fn-F5 that would have turned it on.

weird black highlight box

OK, so I accidentally leaned on my Mac Pro keyboard (OSX Tiger). Now I have this really annoying black single-line highlight box that appears around, for instance, a desktop icon when I click on it. Or the "back" button in Safari, or the text box that I'm writing in now! How do I get rid of it?
