I notice Apple has not provided a means to 'Rip' DVD movies that you currently own into iTunes. I have ripped several of mine using Handbrake. I changed the extension to 'M4v' and they import into iTunes into the Movies section of the Library just fine. However, one that I purchased from the iTunes store keeps sorting to the top of the list as if the others were not there. They play just fine, but I'm wondering if they will be recognized as legitimate movie files by the new 'iTV' box when it comes out since they're not purchased from iTunes?

I'd strongly assume so.
The iTv box should be able to stream any content you have in your library. You can obviously also add your own home movies to iTunes, and it has to be able to play those too, so any movie should work.
