my seagate HD is making a "ping pong" bounce kind of sound

like if you bounce a ping pong ball on a table sound...

um...

is this bad? it won't show up on the MacBook when i plug it in...

Sure doesn't sound like it could be a good thing.

Back up everything and get a new drive is all I have to say.

back up if you can, and replace that drive, if its still under warranty, even better.

i think its dead.
you turn it on and it makes a weezing kind of sound. nothing happens. then it just turns itself off.

so now my other problem.
there is sensitive financial information on that thing.
and it doesn't work so i can't erase it.
but the drive is new.... i got it in july.
i suppose i'm going to have to mail it in and worry about identity theft?
