Hi,

I have an iMac17 and was wondering what were the optimum settings for the firewall. Right now, it's on but no items are ticked off. Does that mean that the firewall isn't doing much?

Thanks,

It basically mean that it's at full capacity...if that makes sense.

Click Advanced and tick all them on aswell, if you think they will be beneficial.

Hope that helps.

With nothing ticked, it means that the firewall is blocking everything. You start ticking things to enable specific services. So, right now, with nothing ticked, you are running at maximum security. This is a good thing!

Just a note to mention that you shouldn't confuse the list of specific services you can choose to allow, with the list of three items that pops up when the Advanced button is clicked. Advanced is good.

Does the mac come with a firewall ?

Sure it does.

Goto System Preferences > Share > Firewall to set it up.

In the Terminal you can use man ipfw command to find more info. about the Unix firewall.

I have iTunes Music Sharing checked; is that OK?

Block UDP traffic in "advanced" is unchecked. Should I check this? What's UDP traffic?
