New File | Delete Option?

I'm not a Mac, Cocoa, Carbon programmer. (Years ago, sure, but I've forgotten everything.)

I want to add a "Delete" option to every application's "File" menu. Especially Preview.

I view a lot of PDFs online. I currently have my browser (Firefox) open them in Preview. Most aren't worth keeping. A copy is placed on my desktop. To delete the file, I have to close the file, switch to Finder, etc.

It'd be great if I could just delete the open file directly from the application itself.

How's this kind of thing done these days?

Well, given that you can't delete a file when it's in use....that probably wouldn't work anyhow.

Plus, I think you'd need the source code for those programs to alter in order to get the Delete to do anything. (You could at least put it up there with Interface Builder, but it wouldn't do anything...)

You will save time if you use the Expose settings to give you fast desktop access. It's not what you want, but saves having to go through Finder.
