My Macbook froze. So I restarted it via the power button.

When I started up, it asked me for my logon password (first time). I had to setup Airport again, I had no background, MSN Messenger was missing, and now it says I don't have access rights to install programs?

Sounds like you might not be logged in as an administrator. Do you have more than one account on your Mac?
