hi- I'm new to this forum. I'm mostly on bmw forums.
I have had my mac since feb. 01. I have a dual 450 g4. For some reason I got the dvd-ram drive- not sure why- I never use it.
My mac still works awesome, especially after going from 9 to Tiger.

Recently I had this problem:

whenever I do not touch my machine for (often) less than a minute...
the hardrive spins down. Often it will happen when just reading or looking away for a minute. Then when I go back, there is a pause until the HD spins up again. Also the fan likes to run and run and run.....

It's starting to bug me and I was wondering if anyone has a tip.
I have reset the sleep to default.

any clues?
TIA-joshua

go into engery setting and make sure you do not allow the hard drive to sleep.

thanks g4- I know my way around mac a little.
I've tried on and off...set to default...etc.
matter a fact....I unchecked to not allow hd to sleep...and read 40 secs. more, and bam...she spins down again.

I knew I'd hear from a mod. too...
i guess i'll live with it. but it definatley has not been doing this long...30 secs...spin down....

you walk out of the room, come back- she's spun down.

anything else effect sleep (cause spin downs) besides energy saver?

this never started happening untill I messed w/ ES pref.

If you trash prefs they are rebuilt next time the particular app is launched, so do what you gotta do.

system prefs?
do what you gotta do huh?
If I knew- I wouldn't ask....still spins down when untouched for 30 seconds or less sometimes. Energy saver is straight forward and is not affecting / changing the issue at all.
