10.4.8 has really messed my Macbook up. Applications quit unexpectedly routinely and i am prompted with restart screens CONStANTLY.

i have repaired permissions and also downloaded the 10.4.8 combo intel update, neither of these worked.

so i think its best to just reinstall the operating system. can anyone lend any advice in this procedure? and more importantly, will reinstalling cause me to lose all my data in the process?

Before re-install, try reset PRAM. If it doesn't help do a "Archive & Install". This way you wont loose any data. To start the installation, insert the Apple installation DVD and press "c" during bootup. Follow the instructions.
