The first time you played with a Mac OS X machine what was the thing that blew you away / was your favorite?

For me it was the whole "pop" sound and bezel that came up with you changed the volume. Yeah, I know trivial but it just blew me away coming from OS 8.

In my case, it was the fact that I finally had an OS X dock the way it was meant to be, working perfectly, and an OS behind it that worked great as well. That, after trying to make my Windows boxes look like Macs for longer than I want to admit. :)

The genie effect when minimising. I'm easily pleased.

I was impressed by the simplicity and the power of OS X. Being a Linux user for a while I felt at home using Terminal. It was so nice to use all these keyboard shortcuts for every possible task you can imagine. After spending so much time with Macs, I am still learning new combinations. :)

I liked the Aqua look personally.

Great thread Ben, thanks!

Simple man, simple pleasures. Heck yeah. If you really want to show it off, hold down shift when you minimize/maximize. It's "bullet time" Genie effect!

I'd have to say the 1st time I intalled an app I fell in love.
Finally a computer I can just use!

I fix XP problems all day. =P
You've got time to be productive, instead of figuring out how to be productive.

Oh , and Exposé had me at hello. For awhile I was the only guy at work that got to work on a Mac. F9 blew people away.

Can I do that on XP?
LOL!

Alas, I don't get to use a Mac at work anymore.

All good posts. I think the first thing that grabbed me was what Schweb mentioned, The Auqa look. It just looked so nice. Made me want to use the OS.

I guess the first time I used OS X was the Cheetah beta in 2001 on an iMac G3...

I was blown away by the Dock. At the time, I'd never seen anything like it.

Expose blew my socks off. Then, watching a friend of mine move a quicktime window around, while a movie was playing and seeing no skipping, stopping or other problems with the movie. I was totally sold after that.

That the installer took my photo and put it up as a user pic. Then, that the installation process took like 3 minutes. Then, the utter silence of my iMac. Then, Exposé. Exposé, exposé, exposé. Probably everything. In fact, I wasn't too surprised by much of ti because I had learnt the OS inside out before buying my first Mac.

Me too with the Aqua look. Can you say OS X had a personality?
