I recently downloaded the update to Itunes and noticed there is sharing now. But, you would have to disable your firewall first. Who would do this? Isn't this stupid to do?

There has always been sharing and no it is not stupid. Allows you to listen to others people's library if they are online. Fun way to share your music. It is not "true" sharing as you are playing files from their computer. No harm in the sharing feature though. Maybe if it is a PC but you aren't transferring files so I really don't see the harm there either.

this only allows me to listen to music with other people on the same network right? So, a person across the country, I could not share with them. Correct?

It's useful, as I will no longer have the bulk of my music on my desktop, but on my MacBook---and my desktop has superior speakers. ;)
