ibook g4 crashing like mad

I just bought a Mac ibook 1 Ghz and its crashing like crazy it gets very hot very fast is there anything that can be done?

And is this normal? even in newer models?

This is a used machine you bought, with no warranty, right?
Crashing like crazy is not normal.
