"Interface Robustness"?

What does it mean by "Use Interface Robustness" under the airport icon on the toolbar?

In the mac store and at home on my iMac
it has to do with waves that interfere with microwaves and wireless telephones, it bacisly makes it so it does not interfere

Why isnt that as standard ? Surely it is the same as pc wireless , and im assuming that since ive never had interference with my pcs that they are*robust* etc.

Base station Interference Robustness, which provides improved performance when 2.4GHz devices like cordless phones and wireless video distribution system cause significant interference with the AirPort network.

I think activating robustness can decrease range or performance a bit... that's why it isn't always on...
