G4 upgrade from 10.3 to 10.4 issue

I have an old G4 my dad used for recording that I am trying to install. It has 3 external hard drives. Im having a problem when I start to install Tiger it will get up to 25% on the system drive but it then said something like "Restart your computer by holding down blah blah blah." and well it just interupts the installation. I tried installing on another drive but it froze. I do NOT want to bring this computer to get it fixed it takes more time and money out of my wallet. Please help me.
