I saw a tip on the Apple.com website about placing the applications folder in the dock, but they gave no clue as to how to accomplish this. I tried dragging from Finder, but all that did was delete it. I've restored it and tried again with the same results.
Can anyone tell me how this can be accomplished?

You have to drag it on the side of the dock next to the trash car (you should be able to see a line that separates the two sections)

and you can not drag it from the side bar, you have to drag the actual folder.

Thanks. I got it. I was doing what you said, but it still was doing the same thing. My wife did a net search for me and found that I needed to drag the folder from the harddrive, not from the sidebar in Finder. Another learning experience!
