Any database programs cheaper then FileMaker?

Filemaker is a great program but the cost is sure high. Is there a good database program (easy to use) that costs less? I have a file of about 2500 items (with a Memo field) that I have been running (on Linux and Windows) with OO. Open Office does not seem to run that good for me on Mac and NeoOffice runs good but not the database program. Thanks in advance for your advice and help.

You could try a combination of MySQL and phpMyAdmin, both free

Where did you get the banners at the bottom of your post? I am particularly interested in the one that says Mac OS user.
