Ok, so I have 1.26GB worth of music on my iTunes. Yet, when I transfer to my iPod nano (1st ed), it shows as 1.8GB with only 552MB of free space? Does that seem right?

Mine only has 7mb artwork in folder and I have 8.78GB of music. A lot of it has artwork.

Do you have anything extra on your ipod like from using it as a disk or any of the extra features on the ipod? Don't know how much the extra features they put on take up but that may be why.

Do you manually update your ipod or have it set to automatic? You may have duplicated some songs if doing manual. I have done that before.

Yes. Assuming you have a 2 GB Nano... if the formatted capacity is 1.8 GB (1800 MB) and you are using 1.26 GB (1260 MB), then you would only have around 552 MB or so left.

1260 MB
+ 552 MB
_________
1812 MB (1.8 GB)

Ah, simple math. I thought he was saying he has 1.26 in his itunes library but when he loads on ipod it shows up with 1.8gb, which of course puts it well over the 2gb so oops I was so wrong.

Yep. I think he was forgetting (like many do) that formatted capacity is different from listed capacity.
I have a 30 GB 5G iPod, but the formatted capacity is only 27.87 GB. It has nothing to do with how much of my songs have artwork or not.
