iTunes two computer question

I'm compiling tunes to use for study in my modest basement music room. Downstairs I have an older iMac (no CD burner) which I run into a mixer along with a headphone amp for my bass. Upstairs, my wife's PC is connected to iTunes separately, although my account shows up on both computers when I log in. My settings show that downloaded songs are authorized to play only on the upstairs computer. I want to download and burn songs upstairs to play in my studio, adding them to the iMac with the rest of my study material. Before I purchase songs I need to fill my "curriculum" I'd like to know if there is a way to transport them between my own computers, in my own home. I like to burn a copy of purchased music right away so as not to run the risk of losing it during the inevitable PC crashes. Thanks for your help!
