I have a powerbook g4 and I am trying to update my os to 10.4. A friend of mine has a startup disc for an imac g5, but when I try to download tiger off of that, I get an error message that reads : "Cannot install this software on this PC". Is there any way to bypass this? What exactly is it that is preventing me from dling it? Is it a security feature on the dvd that could be passed by sticking the dvd on an ipod and dling from there or what?

It's for the imac that's why. You have to have the universal disks. That's one reason why they do that to prevent OS from being passed around illegally.
